The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

Thirty something--years to remember--beginning in a restaurant with me as a waitress as I discovered it can be difficult to secure a professional job graduating with a BA degree in psychology. But as fate would have it, journalism, my avocation in high school, after college became my life's work. Fortunately, I was co-editor of our high school newspaper when it won a national award, thus helping to prepare me for the future in writing I could not foresee. Seeking to create a portfolio of writing samples to market for future jobs, I knocked on the door of a nearby weekly newspaper. One month later, I was editor of the Free Press/ East Penn Edition. As an editor, albeit heading up a suburban weekly, brought lunch with Sophia Loren or an exclusive interview with Bob Hope into the realm of possibility. Four years later, the publisher created a new position for me as a section editor of the daily Quakertown Free Press producing local news. I was also a Bureau Chief. When the paper was sold, I pursued an MS degree in telecommunications but soon realized that I preferred print journalism after all. Today I am still writing along with working as a substitute teacher. I've been a volunteer for the local Penn State Banquet Committee, Alumni Society and for the past seven years, secretary of the PSU Lehigh Valley Chapter. That's all....For the glory!
